AT&T Centers first name when constructed was SBC Center, named after the sponsor SBC communications. And in 2006, it took its current name after it was acquired by AT&T Corporation in 2005. The arena is home to NBA team San Antonio Spurs, WNBA team San Antonio Silver Stars, and AHL team San Antonio Rampage.
The arena hosts not only sporting games and other local community events, but it hosts also autocross competitions each month in the parking lot. After a long campaign of Spurs to build a new arena, an agreement was reached in 2000 with CBS communication and the ground was broken the same year.
The design of the arena is like other newly constructed arenas in NBA. The architecture of the arena was made under the team of Lake/Flato firm with the help of Ellerbe Becket. The construction of the arena is fund by different sponsors including county-issued bonds, hotel-occupancy and car-rental tax increase and a contribution of .5 million from Spurs.
